The New York City Department of Probation (NYC DOP) is using a very creative approach to improve services and in-reach to those under its supervision. Partnering with community-based organizations in the neighborhoods most affected by crime and victimization, the NYC DOP is opening NeON centers. NeON stands for Neighborhood Opportunity Networks. What a terrific and respectful approach–to be physically situated in the community for easy access by people on probation and their families. They also offer all kinds of resources, such as computers, family friendly books and toys, and a less formal way for those on probation to seek services for themselves and their loved ones.
